SACPCMP Launches Roadshow for Registration of Building Inspectors to a Packed House
There was a packed house at the roadshow launch event for the Registration of Building Inspectors, presented by the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) in Midrand this week.
The Council welcomed building inspectors from across Gauteng to discuss the requirements and benefits of the registration process that will commence in October 2019.
“The SACPCMP has been identified as the most preferable governing body to administer the registration of building inspectors and in November 2015, we entered into a partnership where a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the National Home Builders Registration Council to ensure the registration and certification of Building Inspectors”, said SACPCMP Registrar, Butcher Matutle, at the roadshow launch. It was envisaged that this would go a long way in protecting the public from substandard building practices. Too many times we have seen disastrous events where buildings or bridges collapse due to substandard building practices. People have lost their lives, their income and their quality of life. And the ripple effect has resulted in a building inspectorate struggling for respect within its professional sphere. As such, it was felt that this registration would boosting the professionalism of the sector and assist in legitimizing building inspectors within South Africa.”
The Scope of Services for the two registration categories – Certified Building Inspector and Professional Building Inspector – were gazetted recently and we are pleased that in October this year, we will officially open registration to all building inspectors within the country. We have endeavoured to make the process as seamless as possible while ensuring that the standard of professionalism ensures amongst all registrants.
This roadshow – which will cover the major city centres within South Africa – will assist professionals in understanding the requirements of the registration, what they need to prepare, and how this will benefit not only them but the construction and building industries at large. I encourage you to ask questions and engage with the team to ensure that you are fully equipped for the registration process and we look forward to seeing this process provide a solid foundation you as professionals – you who hold the safety and quality of life in your hands for so many.”
